Company Philosophy

The most commonly used measure of the success of a business is its profitability. But, we think that profit is only an after-the-fact “effect”. People have limited ability to control the effect. However, what is controllable are the causes responsible for producing the desired effect. Readers familiar with Six Sigma may relate this to the concept of Y= f(X). That is, to achieve the desired Ys, it is necessary to identify and improve critical Xs.

Our strategy is to understand and maximize the “causal forces” (critical Xs) that would produce the intended “effect” (Y). We consider enthusiasm, innovative ideas, execution rigor, pride in quality and symbiotic relationship with the environment are the key causal forces. We share this philosophy with our associates. As a company, we continuously strive to optimize these causal forces within our business.

Quality Philosophy

We endorse and follow the tenets of Dr. W Edward Deming in our quality and management philosophy. Following are two of our favorite excerpts from his book that we incorporate in our philosophy.

Knowing what to improve

Deming: “How do you go about to improve quality & productivity?”
Usual reply: “By everyone doing his best [in the organization]”
Deming says that this is the wrong answer. He says, “Best efforts are essential. Unfortunately, best efforts, people charging this way and that way without guidance of principles, can do a lot of damage. Think about the chaos that would come if everyone did his best, not knowing what to do”.
